2022 ICC Women’s World Cup: NZ-W vs WI-W

Teams Status

New Zealand:

In the first match of the mega-event, the New Zealand Women’s team will enter with high confidence.

In the history of women’s 50-over cricket, New Zealand are one of the most successful teams, having a win percentage of more than 50 %.

However, despite that, they’ve never managed to win the mega-event and finished runners up on three occasions.

The management will be hoping that the players will lift their game and finally break the psychological barrier to lift the title in front of the home crowd.

In the batting department, the home team will be relying on the likes of captain Sophie Devine, vice-captain Amy Satterthwaite, middle-order batter Maddy Green, opener Frances Mackay and wicketkeeper-batter Katey Martin to score the bulk of the runs and put the opposition under pressure.

On the bowling front, the onus will be on the likes of pacers Lea Tahuhu, Hannah Rowe, Hayley Jensen along with the spin duo of Amelia Kerr, Fran Jonas to produce timely breakthroughs and dismantle the opposition’s batting lineup.

West Indies:

West Indies will enter the contest as underdogs, largely because of their recent performances against the Black Caps in the 50-over format where they’ve been the second-best by some distance.

Despite their heroics in the T20 format where they’ve already won the title, Windies are still looking to cement their supremacy in the ODIs and their best performance came in the 2013 edition where they finished as the runners up after suffering a defeat in the final against Australia.

The management will be hoping to see the players put a better show this time around and finally lift their maiden title in the 50-over format.

In the batting department, the Caribbean side will be heavily relying on the likes of captain and star batter Stafanie Taylor, Deandra Dottin, middle-order batter Chinelle Henry, wicketkeeper-batter Kycia Knight and opener Hayley Matthews to score the bulk of the runs and give the bowlers something to work with.

In the bowling department, the onus will be on the likes of pacers Shamilia Connell, Henry, Cherry-Ann Fraser, Dottin along with the spin duo of Karishma Ramharack, Afy Fletcher to claim timely breakthroughs.
