Teams Status

Chennai Super Kings:

Chennai Super Kings are having a worst-ever start to an IPL campaign as they are one of the only two teams remaining to not have won a single match in the competition.

After failing to win any of the first four matches, they will start the match against the RCB as an underdog and the management would be hoping that the players will be able to turn it around in the next match and produce a positive result.

In the previous outing, the defending champions suffered an eight-wicket thrashing against the Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Chennai’s problem in the ongoing campaign is that neither their bowling nor their batting has clicked in any of the games, leaving them badly exposed against all the opponents.

The presence of too many aged players, some of whom have clearly past their prime, is also an issue that is halting the progress of the team.

After the first four matches, only two batters — Shivam Dube and Robin Uthappa — have managed to score more than 100 runs. Dube is leading the charts with 112 at an average of 28.

On the bowling front, only Dwayne Bravo has managed to claim more than five wickets in the competition. He currently has six scalps to his name.

Royal Challengers Bangalore:

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) will enter the contest against the Chennai Super Kings as firm favourites as they are one of the most in-form teams in the competition.

After playing four matches in the tournament, RCB have six points with three wins and the management would be hoping to see the players continue producing a similar kind of performance in the next match as well. In their last outing, Royal Challengers thrashed Mumbai Indians by seven wickets.

RCB’s success in the early phase of the competition is down to their bowling unit’s performance where three bowlers have managed to claim five or more wickets.

Sri Lanka’s star leg-spinner Wanindu Hasaranga de Silva is leading the charts with eight wickets to his name at an average of 15. He is followed by pacers Harshal Patel and Akash Deep who have claimed six and five wickets, respectively. On the batting front, captain Faf du Plessis is leading the charts with 138 runs at an average of 34.50. He is closely followed by Anuj Rawat (113) and former captain Virat Kohli (106).
