Atlético Goianiense v Corinthians

Sunday 5th June – 00:30AM KO

Atlético Goianiense will play host to Corinthians in the Brazilian Serie A this weekend, a game which has drawn the attention of the local faithful. The away end has been sold out too and the club are expecting around 12,000 people to attend the clash in Goiânia.

Since Jorginho’s return to the club, Atletico-GO remain unbeaten. In three matches, they have one win and two draws, scoring four and conceding twice. Their last outing saw them earn a decent point away from home against Internacional. In this game, Atletico GO had an XG of 1.73 compared to their opponent’s 1.02 and will probably feel hard done by that they didn’t leave Porto Alegre with all three points.

Corinthians come into this game on the back of five straight score draws, with four of them ending 1-1. Vitor Pereira’s men will be disappointed with this as they have surrendered their lead at the top of the table to rivals Palmeiras. Last weekend, Corinthians took on America Mineiro at home, in a game they were favourites. Timão fell behind in the second half but, managed to rescue a point, thanks to a goal from Gustavo Mosquito. The worry for Corinthians is that they only had an XG of 1.17 compared to their opponent’s 1.59. That was the sixth league game in a row that they have been outperformed in terms of XG, which explains the reason they have had so many draws in recent weeks.

Atletico GO are unbeaten in their last seven games against Corinthians, with three wins and four draws. The last meeting was a 1-1 draw back in September of last year.

Dragão have the potential to cause Corinthians trouble with the tricky attackers in Wellington Rato, Shaylon and Jorginho, they know they will get chances in this game and with a pumped-up home crowd, they will be confident of getting something out of the game and extending their unbeaten run over the Sao Paulo side to eight.

Prediction: Atletico GO Double Chance, 1.50 on Betfair (⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️)

Flamengo v Fortaleza

Sunday 5th June – 8:00PM KO

Paulo Souza can finally breathe a sigh of relief as Jorge Jesus signed a deal to become the new manager of Fenerbahce, the increased pressure on him a few weeks ago, steamed from comments Jesus made to Brazilian TV stating he wanted to return to the club. Since then, Flamengo have been in fine form and are slowly finding their feet under Souza. The Rubro Negro have won five matches out of six matches and come into this game full of confidence. Last time out, they enjoyed a 2-1 victory over rivals Fluminense after falling a goal behind.

Flamengo have key players missing here, Gabi is suspended and Giorgian de Arrascaeta is on international duty with Uruguay. Pedro is likely to be the man to replace Gabi, he has three goals in his last four games. Vitinho will be the favourite to come in for the Uruguayan international, the 28-year-old has just returned from injury and will relish the opportunity to get some game time under his belt.

The surprise package of last season, Fortaleza are struggling this time around… After eight games they are yet to win and will simply have to improve. Their style is attractive to the eye, high pressing attacking football, but it all counts for nothing if they can’t pick up results. Last time out, against rivals Ceará, an early red card to Felipe was the huge turning point in a 1-0 loss. Fortaleza are underperforming according to their XG. In attack, their XG stands at 10.43 for the season, while they’ve only scored four goals. In defence, their XG is at 9.58 and they’ve shipped in 11 goals.

Like Flamengo, Fortaleza have players missing which is likely to be a huge factor in this game. Felipe, Lucas Lima and Bryan Ceballos are suspended, whilst the ideal replacement for Felipe, Matheus Vargas, is injured.

Fortaleza are likely to come good at some point in the season, but with them missing several key players and their confidence low, this game is a little too soon for them and Flamengo will expect to keep their winning run going.

Prediction: Flamengo to Win, 1.44 on Betfair (⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️)

Palmeiras v Atletico Mineiro

Sunday 5th June– 8:00PM KO

The league leaders, Palmeiras, take on the Champions Atletico Mineiro in Sao Paulo this Sunday, in what is the biggest game of the season so far in the Brazilian Serie A and with that, the result could give huge indications as to where the 2022 title will go come the end of the campaign.

Both sides have several absences due to international fixtures… Palmeiras will be without; Jailson and Mayke who both have injuries, as well as Gustavo Gomez, Benjamin Kusecvic and Danilo who are all representing their countries. Luan has been injured but his recent recovery means he is the man likely to replace Gomez at centre half, whilst Gabriel Menino will take Danilo’s spot.

Palmeiras come into this game in great form, they have won their last six matches, scoring 13 and only conceding three times. Last time out against Santos, despite all of the attacking talent they have, it was centre half Gomez who gave the current South American champions the three points. In this game, Palmeiras had an XG of 2.02 and allowed Santos an XG of 1.85.

Atletico Mineiro have the majority of their regular starters playing but will be without left-back Guilherme Arana who is with Brazil. Vargas and Zaracho have injuries. Galo could see the return of Keno who has recovered from injury. Youngster Rubens will fill the void at left-back in Arana’s absence. Atletico’s last outing, saw them have an XG of 1.97 compared to Avai’s 0.73 in a 2-1 win for Galo. The main problem for the Mineiro club this season has been keeping clean sheets and that doesn’t look like changing here.

Palmeiras have scored in every game but one in the league and had an XG of over 1.5 in seven of their eight matches. Atletico have also had a decent average in terms of XG, in their eight games, they average 1.90 per game. With both sides willingness to create chances, as well as, defensive changes, it’s likely that both teams will score in this battle.

Prediction: Both Teams to Score, 1.80 on Betfair (⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️)

Red Bull Bragantino v Internacional

Sunday 5th June – 11:00PM KO

Red Bull Bragantino host Internacional at the Estádio Nabi Abi Chedid in Bragança Paulista. Both sides come into the game hoping to improve on recent results in order to rise up the table.

Bragantino will be glad to see the backend of May, a month which saw them eliminated from both the Copa do Brasil and Copa Libertadores, as well as, failing to win a single game with five defeats and three draws. Last weekend, they drew 1-1 away from home with Goias in the league, putting up an XG of 1.49 compared to their opponents’ 1.14. This was the first time in three games that Bragantino had an XG above 1.0. In midweek, Bragantino exited the Copa do Brasil, after a 1-0 loss to Goias, this time at home. The result means Bragantino will only play in the Brazilian Serie A for the remainder of the year, which could benefit them later on in the campaign.

Internacional are unbeaten in 12 matches in all competitions, the majority of them have been drawn, but their cautious style makes them hard to beat. Their last outing, saw them draw 1-1 with Atletico GO. After scoring an early goal through Wanderson, Inter tried to shut up shop and stop Atletico from scoring. This worked right up until the 79th minute as Diego Churin’s goal ensured Inter didn’t get the three points they would’ve hoped for.

Theirs’s plenty of similarities between both Inter and Bragantino this season, they both have averaged 13 shots per game, both with four being on target on average per match. Inter have an average possession of 49.28%, with Bragantino’s being slightly higher at 49.59%.

With both sides having similar styles and being specialists in drawing this season, it’s likely that this will be a low scoring affair with it taking one goal to win the tie. In the meeting’s last year, there were two games, ending 1-1 and 1-0, something which is on the cards here.

Prediction: Under 2.5 Goals, 1.62 on Betfair (⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️)
