Teams Status

Sunrisers Hyderabad

Sunrisers Hyderabad saw their five-match winning streak come to an end in their last game with a surprise defeat to Gujarat Titans in a match they should have won.

In the defence of 195, Hyderabad had Gujarat pegged at 140 for 5. With just 24 balls left and 56 runs needed, Hyderabad were on top before Rahul Tewatia and Rashid Khan turned the match on its head. Their former star Rashid, in particular, proved devastating as he showed Hyderabad what they’re missing with three sixes in the final over.

The defeat came despite pacer Umran Malik wreaking havoc and taking a five-for, for which he was named the player of the match despite his team coming out second best on the night.

The setback shouldn’t do much or any damage to Hyderabad’s momentum as most of their players did most of the things right even in that defeat — apart from Marco Jansen, who went for 63 runs in his four overs.

Chennai Super Kings

Defending champions Chennai Super Kings are reeling from the shock of bad results as well as the growing injury list.

Moeen Ali, Deepak Chahar and Adam Milne are all nursing injuries, further stressing a team that never had its balance right in the first place.

Ruturaj Gaikwad has blown more cold than hot all season, but his lack of production was being covered for by Shivam Dube and Robin Uthappa initially. The problem is that now those two have been having difficulties, leaving an already embattled CSK batting unit in deeper problems.

Among the bowlers, Mukesh Choudhary and Maheesh Theekshana have done well of late, finding wickets in powerplay. Collectively though, their bowlers – except for Theekshana and Mitchell Santner – still concede at an extremely high rate.
